Biggest party of the year coming July 6

BY JAY STRUTH

Killarney’s biggest party of the year is just around the corner, and Brett Kissel can’t wait to headline it.

Kissel is coming on Saturday, July 6 to play the Kick Off To Summer Concert at the Killarney Ag Grounds, along with Justin LaBrash, Hicktown, the Mike Sacharko Band, TangleBox, and Sentinel.

“You’ve got a really excited country artist here, who’s really thrilled to be coming into town,” said Brett Kissel, who heard glowing reviews from his friends, and last year’s Killarney concert headliners, The Reklaws. “There are a lot of performers who don’t give small towns the time of day. They want to just go to Toronto and then head back home. I’m the opposite. I can’t wait to come out there.”

Brett said he might even come out a day early, and stay a day late, and maybe do some fishing.

“I heard there’s good fishing there, and I’m sure it’s beautiful,” he said. “I’m honoured that Killarney invited me, and hopefully we can pack the place. Let’s sell a few more tickets and sell it out.”

Kissel is currently riding high with the release of his new single ‘Let Your Horses Run.’

“The video shoot for that one was really special,” he said of the new hit single. “We were in an outstanding location, just at the base of the Rocky Mountains southwest of Calgary. We were on two very special ranches. One of them is the Calgary Stampede ranch called the OH Ranch, and the other one is a really famous ranch called the Anchor D Ranch.”

The Anchor D Ranch is right next to Kananaskis Country, and it’s the last ranch before it becomes provincial park area.

“In that park there are 150 or 200 wild horses that have been living there for generations,” said Kissel. “ We got some incredible footage of those horses doing their daily run from the foothills down to the meadow. We caught all that on film. And getting that as part of the music video is just epic.”

With three Platinum and ten Gold singles, two Gold-certified albums, and sixteen Top-10 radio hits, Brett has become one of the country’s most celebrated artists.

Having toured with legends such as Garth Brooks and Brad Paisley, and completing record breaking runs across the country, Kissel has firmly planted himself as one of Canada’s most beloved entertainers.

So come catch Kissel, and the other amazing bands, at the third annual Kick off To Summer Concert in Killarney. Gates open at 12 noon on Saturday, July 6 with 10 food trucks available for the sampling, as well as beer gardens.

Music starts at 2 p.m. with Sentinel kicking things off, and it’s free to the public till 4:15 p.m., when you’ll then need a ticket to take in the tunes.

There is also unlimited unserviced overflow camping available for the event, within walking distance. Contact the Killarney Ag Campground at 204-523-4699 for details.

Now all that’s left is to get your tickets, which are available at eventbrite.com: adults (13+) $75, and children (6-12) $25, or call the Shamrock Centre at 204-523-8920.

“Get your tickets for your friends and your family, and make a great memory,” Kissel said. “Come on out and have some fun with us. We want to sell out that festival, and we want to show off our small town pride.”
