Beer tasting for the bubbler heads tonight

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Blarney Stone Pub for KLAC’s Killarney Lake Aeration Project Fundraiser; beer tasting runs from 7 – 9 p.m.

Sampling some fine beers tonight will help improve clarity at the local lake.

The Killarney Lake Action Committee (KLAC), in conjunction with The Blarney Stone Pub and Restaurant, is holding a Beer Tasting benefit evening on Thursday, March 29, and funds raised will help set up their bubbler head system in the lake this summer.

“It will be fun, and casual as well,” said KLAC chair Rick Korman. “We will have some displays, and we will have the bubbler heads. There will be a lot of our members there, for some interesting side conversations.”

Fifteen or more selections of beers will be set out on tables for the tastings, and Blarney Stone owner Rick Pauls will also be serving up delicious tidbits to complement the hoppy beverages.

“We will have things that go with beer, like pub food appetizers,” he said.

KLAC is seeking to raise around $85,000, in order to install a bubbler lake aeration system in part of Killarney Lake this summer.

The oxygenating and invigoration of the lake water using this system shows great promise of improving both the water quality and freshwater life of the lake, said the group.

“We have raised close to $50,000 now,” said Korman. “We are looking at around $34,000 more. We have also had many offers in kind, and things are going very well.”

In addition to the beer tasting pleasures will be a live auction, a Chinese auction, a raffle draw, and 50:50 tickets.

“We have some great items,” said Korman. “We have a smoker, a kayak, a fire pit, and hamper baskets. That’s just some of the things.”

Tickets for the Beer Tasting/Killarney Lake Aeration Project Fundraiser are still on sale for $20 each at Lewis and Jones, the local Manitoba Liquor Mart, and will also be available at the door tonight.
