Shamrocks beat Blues to win THHL Championship

THHL CHAMPIONS – The Killarney Shamrocks are back-to-back THHL Champions after defeating the Hartney Blues in game five, of the best-of-five final, in Killarney on Thursday night. Hartney came out flying with Del Cowan scoring 15 seconds into the final game (assisted by Taylor Wells, Jesse Linner). That would be the last goal the Blues would score, however, with the Shamrocks top scorer Ty Enns (Brock Sutherland, Drew Shiels) tying it up in the first, followed by the game-winning goal from Jesse Toth (Jesse Bernard).

NAIL IN THE COFFIN – Killarney’s Isaac Friesen (Jesse Bernard, Jesse Toth) would put the nail in the coffin (above) as he ripped one under the arm of pummelled Hartney goalie Justin Holder. Shamrocks goal tender Brian Archibald shut the door for the rest of the hard-hitting game, beating the Blues 3-1. The Shamrocks now await their next opponent, either the Winkler Royals or the Ile des Chenes Northstars, in the Manitoba Senior ‘A’ Provincial Championship. Winkler currently leads the SEMHL best-of-seven final series 3-2, with game six in Ile des Chenes tonight. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY  – Captain Morgan Magwood (from left) and alternate captains Ty Enns, Brett Opperman, and Reid Gow of the Shamrocks accept the Deschouwer Cup from Andrew Arksey, vice president of the Tiger Hills Hockey League.

MVP OF THE PLAYOFFS – Goalie Brian Archibald was awarded the Blaine Jarvis Memorial THHL Playoff MVP. Archibald went 8-3 in the playoffs, with a sparkling 1.70 GAA and .941 save percentage, both tops in the league.

SATURDAY NIGHT BATTLE – Down a goal in the third period, the Killarney Shamrocks peppered the Hartney cage but couldn’t come up with the tying goal. Instead it was Jesse Linner of the Hartney Blues who would put home a shorthanded goal to seal the deal on Saturday night in Killarney. The Shamrocks top scorer Ty Enns got the only goal for the home team in the first period (assisted by Rylan Gudnason). Goal scorers for the Blues were: Del Cowan (Zack McMillan, Taylor Wells), Zack McMillan (Michael Butler, Nick Cowan), and Jesse Linner. The Shamrocks headed back to Hartney on Monday, up 2-1 in the THHL final series. The Blues were firing on all cylinders once again, beating the Shamrocks 3-1, and tying the series at two games apiece. Scoring for the Blues on Monday were: Mark Derlago (Mark Agnew), Brayden Michalchuk (Joel Yanick), and Zack McMillan with the empty netter.
