Santa Claus is coming to town tonight
Santa and Mrs. Claus are coming tonight – Friday, December 18 – to Killarney!
Beginning at around 6 p.m. the red-velveted duo will be jingling their way throughout the town, as a way to cheer up the kids (and maybe the bigger “kids” too) during the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
Santa and his wife were invited to visit Killarney by the local council, after Deputy Mayor Janice Smith voiced the idea as a special way to celebrate Christmas.
“I thought we should be doing something for the kids and the community, because this is such a difficult year,” said Smith. “The Claus’s won’t be stopping, or giving anything out, because they have to follow all the pandemic guidelines. But it will still be fun. The tour will begin at the Shamrock Centre, and if you are not on Santa’s route, you can park there to see Santa from your car. You can also park at the Ag Grounds to see Santa and Mrs. Claus. We think it might run until around 9 p.m.”
Leading the festive parade will be a trusty green fire truck, followed by a flat bed truck bearing Santa and his wife, plus two GVE side-by-sides involving elves, and even the CJRB radio van will be there, playing Christmas music – all socially distanced.
You can check out the cheery couple’s route below this story, or by visiting the municipal website, or Facebook page, and then wait by the windows or the door for a non-contact glimpse of Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Have a very merry Christmas!
SANTA’S BACK – Last year Santa paid his regular visit to town on the Christmas in Killarney weekend, taking part in the Friday parade, Saturday photos and more. This year all those festive activities were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, but Santa’s back for a special tour through the streets of Killarney tonight.
