New beach at Killarney’s Kerry Park
BY JAY STRUTH
Life’s a beach, and the Killarney Kinsmen have just created one of their own, at their campground, on the north side of the lake.
Work began on the site earlier in the week, and the approximately 100 x 140 foot beach is now complete.
“We’ll keep adding sand there for a few years to build it up,” said Bart Sutherland, Kerry Park Campground treasurer, who added that a buoyed swimming area is also part of the future plan. “We did a survey with the campers a couple of years ago, and that (beach) was one thing that kept coming up.”
Sutherland feels that adding a second beach on another side of Killarney Lake benefits the entire community, as well as their visitors.
“We’re attracting more campers all the time, and we’re always looking for things to add to the campground,” said Sutherland. “And if we have a bad day at the main beach (Killarney Beach at Erin Park) it might be better at the Kerry Park Beach. So we’ll see. We’ll maybe expand on our beach in future years, but we’ll see how it goes for now.”
NEW BEACH NOW OPEN TO PUBLIC – Work was moving right along on Monday at Kerry Park (above), and, by the evening, their vision of a beautiful beach was taking shape. The beach is now ready to be used, just in time for another hot summer.
