Upgrades coming soon to Tri-Lake emergency/acute care facility

Improvements and upgrades to the local hospital’s acute care/emergency area are slated to begin soon.

Killarney’s Tri-Lake Health Centre is one of three hospitals in the region on track for renovations, which is encouraging for both the staff at hospitals, and for the communities themselves. The other two hospitals included in the project are the Souris Health Centre and Virden Health Centre.

“I think we are very appreciative of the decision made by the RHA (Regional Health Authority), and it gives us an opportunity to offer more when we are recruiting,” said Municipality of Killarney Turtle-Mountain Mayor Merv Tweed. “I think we are always recruiting. It’s good for the community, and it’s great news for the region.”

Work is slated to begin this fall in Killarney, said a representative for Prairie Mountain Health.

“Renovations to the emergency department (ED) at Tri Lake (Killarney) Health Centre are expected to begin in October,” said Lara Bossert, Regional Lead – Communications for Prairie Mountain Health, in a press release. “These renovations will remodel the ED so that it provides enhanced sightlines from triage desks, improved wayfinding, larger treatment spaces, and expanded patient waiting areas.”

Early capital planning efforts have been underway since late fall, 2021, she added, with an RFP (Request for Proposal) for construction management services closing soon.

“Once the RFP is awarded and timelines are firmed up, communication will be taking place with staff who work at Tri Lake Health Centre to ensure they are aware of any impacts to their day-to-day work (changes to ED access, loud noises, etc.),” said Bossert. “In addition, public information will be shared to ensure patients and residents know what to expect when accessing care at the Emergency Department during construction.”

HOSPITAL EMERGENCY UPGRADES – Tri-Lake Health Centre in Killarney is one of three hospitals in the Prairie Mountain Health Region scheduled for upgrades and renovations. Work is expected to begin in the acute care/emergency area of the local health centre in early October.
