Puffs, a new take on the Harry Potter saga, plays tonight at 7:30 p.m. for its final showing

Twenty years have passed since J.K. Rowling first brought Harry Potter and his friends to life.

Since that time, audiences got to read six sequels and watch eight movies (not to mention all of the spin-offs). One would think that everything that could have been done with the Potter universe has been done, but that is simply not true.

“Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” retells this famous story (while dancing around a few awkward copyright issues) from the point of view of the Puffs. Rather than retell the story of Harry, Ron and Hermione, the play explores the lives of three other friends, Wanda, Olive and Melvin, as they negotiate their seven years in a school that houses both the everyday issues of bullying and peer pressure, but also the less common conflicts imposed by dragons and curses.

How will these characters fare in a world that is very much a lot to handle? You will have to come and see.

“Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” plays at the Killarney School south gymnasium for its final performance tonight, Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Trinkets & Treasures and at Killarney School.

CAST AND CREW OF PUFFS – There’s one more night to enjoy a hilarious take on Harry Potter from the Killarney School cast, crew and band of Puffs. Director Wendy Lovett (left) and her cast of actors have been hard a work for months preparing the play.
