Irish green fire trucks have a new home

It was quite the celebration last Saturday afternoon as the town’s fire trucks gracefully rolled in, right on schedule, to park up neatly at the brand new fire hall on South Railway.

“It was great,” said Fire Chief Troy Cuvelier. “Everything went smoothly. We had all the trucks moved over at 1:30 p.m., and then the equipment came over.”

And overnight on that same Saturday – just into the early hours of Sunday – the crew got their first callout based in the new fire hall, to a single motor vehicle accident.

“It was great to have a bright new hall, and lots of room,” said Cuvelier. “We had ease of access, and a quicker time to get out of town.”

Details of the callout itself were unavailable, said the chief, as the emergency incident was at that time being investigated by the RCMP, and family had not yet been notified.

FIREFIGHTERS AT THE READY – Dedicated firefighters with the Killarney-Turtle Mountain Fire Department posed together early last Saturday afternoon just outside Killarney’s brand new fire hall on South Railway. The trucks had been transferred over earlier, followed by the rest of the equipment, and then it was time to celebrate the spacious and well-lit facility. A grand opening event will take place this spring for the public.

MORE SPACE AT CIVIC OFFICE – The old Broadway Avenue fire hall, attached to Killarney’s Civic Office, will now be renovated for additional office space.
