Arin Hiebert takes on The Big Bake Holiday challenge
Thinking outside the bakery box
Chef Arin Hiebert, formerly of Killarney, has made the culinary cut, and will be one of the contenders appearing on the Food Network’s ‘The Big Bake: Holiday’ series, which began airing on Monday, November 4.
The Big Bake is a larger-than-life holiday baking competition series, with themed Halloween, holiday, and spring episodes.
In each episode, three professional baking teams have five hours to design, bake, and decorate a grand-scale cake creation, based on a particular theme.
“These bakers need to think big and bold, blowing up their designs to gigantic proportions, and thinking outside the (bakery) box,” say promoters.
“In the end, the most ambitious, eye-popping and delicious cake will go home with a $10,000 prize.”
Arin Hiebert is the son of Heather and Bob Hiebert of Killarney, and is a graduate of Brandon’s Assiniboine College culinary program. He holds a culinary Red Seal, and has also trained at the French Pastry School (Chicago, Illinois), and at the Chocolate Academy of Chicago.
Hiebert, who is based in Calgary, Alberta, and works at the Fairmont Palliser hotel, says he gets a thrill creating ‘dessert decadence and specialty cakes’ – and especially working with chocolate – which should serve him well in the upcoming high stakes competition.
He will be making his countertop appearance during the third episode of The Big Bake, which takes place on Monday, November 18 at 9 p.m.
Good luck Arin!
