From Heritage Home to Oak and Owl Café

BY KIM LANGEN

In a swerve towards town, where she will soon be combining the arts with tasty food and drink, Jane Ireland is taking on a vibrant new role.

Ireland, who has served for the past five years as arts administrator at the Heritage Home for the Arts, said it was a good time for change. And when an opportunity was recently laid at her door, she swept up the offer.

“I will be managing the Oak and Owl Café, starting in June, and it will be a great fit, as the arts centre and the café have been partnering on a number of wonderful recent events, including concerts, and the sold-out Woman of Distinction event,” she said. “It is bittersweet. I have loved my role here at the art gallery, but it is not the end. My heart is still here, and I will remain active as a member with the Arts Council.”

Her new role as operations manager for the Oak and Owl Café and Gallery/Framing on Broadway Avenue begins on June 1. A formal candidate for her position at the Heritage Home for the Arts has not yet been selected, although a temporary replacement is currently in place for the interim.

LEAVING THE ART GALLERY – Jane Ireland, administrator at the Heritage Home for the Arts, is passing on the torch at the end of May after five years of dedicated service and impassioned fundraising for the gallery. On June 1 she will begin her new role as manager of the Oak and Owl Café and Art Gallery/Framing on Broadway Avenue.

HOLE #1 AT ARTS WEST TRAVELLING GALLERY – This month’s exhibit at the Heritage Home for the Arts is the ArtsWest Travelling Gallery – a lovely and endearing collection of 19 works, created by artists living in communities of southwest Manitoba. Last year the gallery hosted the 43rd Westman Juried Art Show, and these 19 pictures were selected from amongst the 73 entries. The exhibition runs until June 3, at the Heritage Home for the Arts,  44 Water Avenue, Killarney (across from Erin Park). Keep scrolling for a few more photos from the exhibit below.
