“Puffs” takes the stage this Thursday and Friday

A new take on the Harry Potter saga

BY WENDY LOVETT

Twenty years have passed since J.K. Rowling first brought Harry Potter and his friends to life.

Since that time, audiences got to read six sequels and watch eight movies (not to mention all of the spin-offs). One would think that everything that could have been done with the Potter universe has been done, but that is simply not true.

“Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” retells this famous story (while dancing around a few awkward copyright issues) from the point of view of the Puffs. Rather than retell the story of Harry, Ron and Hermione, the play explores the lives of three other friends, Wanda, Olive and Melvin, as they negotiate their seven years in a school that houses both the everyday issues of bullying and peer pressure, but also the less common conflicts imposed by dragons and curses.

How will these characters fare in a world that is very much a lot to handle? You will have to come and see.

“Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” plays at the Killarney School south gymnasium on Thursday, May 5, and Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Trinkets & Treasures and Killarney School.

PUFFS – A comedic retelling of the Harry Potter series, but from the perspective of the Puffs, is coming to Killarney School on May 5 and 6. The cast is still hard at work preparing for the upcoming play.

“PUFFS” TO TAKE THE STAGE – With wands waving, and plenty of practice happening, the actors are almost ready to take the Killarney School stage this coming Thursday and Friday, May 5 and 6. The play (Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic) is a hilarious new take on the Harry Potter saga, but from the point of view of the Puffs.
