KCI Kindness Club continues from home

Hello residents of Killarney,

We are the Killarney School Kindness Club. We are a group of Grade 4/5 students, and are led by Mrs. Poulin.

Our hope when we started our club was to spread kindness around our school. We did this through a series of projects that we began in December.

Our first project was using Mars bars from the Middle Years Student Council to give to all of the staff members in our school. We wrote kind messages, and signed them from the Kindness Club. We delivered them to everyone before Christmas break.

Our second project was making a bulletin board with the message: “Good Vibes: Wake up on the ‘Right Side’ of the Bed.” We put up kind messages on the bulletin board for when people wake up on the ‘wrong side’ of the bed. Then they can take off a kind message to help brighten their day.

We also contributed to our school newsletter. Kindness Korner was our first contribution.

It consisted of a Kindness Challenge and a Kindness Quote. We even put up posters around the school for people to write down whether they completed the challenge. It was fun!

We had so many other ideas for spreading kindness throughout the school, but these projects have been put on hold due to the coronavirus.

Our teacher, Mrs. Poulin, has been using Zoom and SeeSaw (a learning app for kids) to stay connected with our class. One day, she had an awesome idea… why not continue with Kindness Club at home?

And so, Virtual Kindness Club was created! Our new hope is to spread kindness throughout the whole town of Killarney. So each week will be submitting our kindness projects to The Guide. We hope you join us in spreading kindness throughout our community!

This is the KCI Kindness Club signing out!

Dear Parents,

Hi! My name is Abigail Heymans. My friend Brynne Shiels and I have come with some ideas to do with your family. You do not have to do them all, but please read them.

During COVID-19 me and Brynne really miss school (we are in Grade 4/5 – Mrs. Poulin’s class). But we especially miss our friends. Stay healthy, stay safe, stay home!

Cheers,

Abby

PS – I am handing it over to my friend, Brynne.

Here are some ideas Abby and I came up with to have some fun at home with your family! From: Brynne

Oobleck recipe

By: Liam Garabed

It has properties of both liquids and solids. You can slowly dip your hand into it like a liquid, but if you squeeze the oobleck or punch it, it will feel solid.

Ingredients

1 part water

1.5-2 parts cornstarch

Food coloring (optional)

Directions:

1.     Mix ingredients.

2.    Put water in a bowl and add the cornstarch slowly while mixing.

3.    Keep stirring until it has a gooey consistency.

4.    Use your hands.

5.    When the oobleck is just right, slowly add food coloring, if you want.

6.    This can be a challenge to get it mixed properly.

7.    Play with it!

THE KINDNESS CLUB KIDS – In December, a group of Grade 4/5 students, led by teacher Mrs. Poulin, joined forces to spread kindness in the school. Calling themselves The Kindness Club, here they are in a group photo taken back in March (when school was still open) with their Good Vibes bulletin board project. Watch The Guide for more stories on upcoming kindness projects by these great kids – and on fun things to do at home!
