Shamrocks finish regular season in second

BY JAY STRUTH

After losing just three games all season, the Killarney Shamrocks have finished second in the league, just behind the undefeated Boissevain Border Kings, and receive a first round bye in the Tiger Hills Hockey League playoffs.

Saturday saw the Shamrocks cap it all off in fine form in front of their home crowd, defeating the Gladstone Lakers 7-3.

And last Friday night Killarney won a 7-8 nail-biter in a Souris shootout.

Scoring for the Shamrocks vs. the Souris Elks were Isaac Friesen (Aubrey Chapman), Aubrey Chapman (Clayton Heinrichs), Jesse Bernard (Morgan Magwood, Isaac Friesen) PP, Aubrey Chapman (Brandon Switzer, Jesse Bernard), Clayton Heinrichs (Sutton Olson, Brayden Cuthbert), Reid Opperman (Clayton Heinrichs, Alcide Grenier), and Jesse Bernard (unassisted).

Jesse Bernard, who tied the game up, was also the shootout hero, deking the goalie and putting in a beauty backhand for the victory.

In Killarney the following night, the Shamrocks were not about to leave the game to chance, lighting up the Lakers’ net with seven goals to Gladstone’s three.

Scoring for the Shamrocks vs. the Lakers were Kyle Peters (Daniel Stagg, Clayton Heinrichs), Ryan Howatt (Morgan Magwood, Jesse Bernard), Ryan Howatt (Aubrey Chapman, Morgan Magwood), Daniel Stagg (Clayton Heinrichs, Colton Magwood), Reid Opperman (Wade Thompson, Camden Cline), Ryan Howatt (Jesse Bernard, Aubrey Chapman), and Wade Thompson (Camden Cline, Reid Opperman).

Playoffs will be set after the last of the THHL games this weekend. Then the Shamrocks will be back in action following the first round of playoffs, when they find out who their opponents will be in round two.

GREAT GLOVE SAVE – Killarney’s Brian Archibald comes up with a great glove save on Saturday against the Gladstone Lakers, to keep the game tied in the first period. The Shamrocks would score six more, to the Lakers’ two, for a 7-3 victory to close out the regular season.
