Celtic rock coming to Killarney Legion

Derina Harvey Band plays this Friday, December 13 at Killarney Legion Hall

A high-energy Celtic music show is slated to rock the Legion walls this Friday.

It’s the Derina Harvey Band, based in Edmonton, who will bring a powerful and uplifting performance to Killarney. Their music is kind of a mix of Stan Rogers and Great Big Sea, with a rolling eastern seaboard feel to lyrics and style.

“The band has a rocky, rhythmic undertone; layered with guitars, fiddle, and topped with Derina’s powerful voice,” say promoters. “Think kitchen party in the hall.”

The band was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the 2018 Edmonton Music Awards, and so far they have taken the stage for some 180 performances throughout the country, giving them a tight edge on the stage.

It’s the second performance in the four-part HyLife Performing Arts Series, hosted by the Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council, which is bringing local, regional, and national performing artists to Killarney.

Tickets for the show, which starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 13 at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall #25, are $30. Advance tickets are available at the Heritage Home for the Arts, Lewis and Jones, and Sweet Pea and Willow.
