It’s coming up fast, and it’s coming up soon.

On Saturday, March 17, Bumper Cars on Ice will be a fun new event at the free St. Patrick’s for Kids celebrations at the Shamrock Centre.

Even the organizers can’t wait to put the pedal to the metal on the arena ice.

“Bumper Cars on Ice is just something we wanted to try,” said chair of the St. Pat’s Committee, Jo Pettypiece. “They sound fun. I think we should try them out ourselves first – myself and Heather Hiebert at the Shamrock Centre. Who will be the better driver? That remains to be seen.”

Around five of the colourful cars will be brought down by company TagEm, from Brandon, for the St. Pats event, along with the goods also needed for Laser Tag (outside in the parking lot), plus one of their big Giant Indoor Games.

“The Giant Indoor Game will be Connect 4, and that will be set up in the foyer of the Shamrock Centre,” said Pettypiece. “Laser Tag might be good for the older kids.”

TagEm staff will also be on hand to run the three new events, she added.

There will also be face painting, cookie decorating, mini-stick hockey, crafts, tattoos, and body painting, she said.

Plus there will be green ice cream cones, free bowling games, and a jellybean-guessing contest.

Even the cops will be turning up, with a cruiser parked out on the lot for kids to check out, along with a big green fire truck on display.

Also in town to celebrate St. Pat’s Day will be a St. Patrick’s Luncheon to be held at the Killarney United Church’s CE Centre – the day before the kid’s event.

A festive meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., on Friday, March 16, and you can find the CE Centre location at 430 Williams Avenue.

In addition, the Killarney Men’s Bonspiel will run at the Shamrock Centre from March 16 to 18, at the TLA Curling Rink.
