Zone 9 Champs host Provincials in Killarney this week

ZONE 9 CHAMPS – The Killarney Raiders JV Girls team won the Zone 9 JV Girls Volleyball Championship in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night at Killarney School. The girls now host Provincials in Killarney from November 23 to 25.

After Boissevain beat Souris in straight sets in the Zone 9 semifinal, the final was set with a classic Boissevain vs. Killarney matchup. It did not disappoint, as both teams battled to take the final to five sets.

Set 1: Killarney won 26-24; Set 2: Boissevain won 25-17; Set 3: Boissevain won 27-25; Set 4: Killarney won 25-16; and the final set, which goes up to 15, but you have to win by 2, the Raiders won 19-17. Killarney’s Lauren Sellman (below) is seen spiking the ball for the final point of the game.

Coach Kristel Mangin said it’s been a pleasure working with this team. “The girls have a special bond which allows them to connect on the court, and it shows,” she said. “They’re all terrific volleyball players.”
