Piles of fun at Killarney Fair despite poor weather

Chilly weather and strong winds kept the crowds away at last weekend’s Killarney Agricultural Fair Days, say organizers.

But there was still plenty of fun for everyone, especially the kids, said Director for Children’s Entertainment, Tammy Nichol.

“The numbers were down,” said Nichol. “We had 409 through the gate on Friday night, and on Saturday 393 people came through. The weather was terrible. It was windy and wet, and very cool. But it didn’t stop the kids, however. They had a good time, and were up and down on the inflatables.”

A new entertainment at the fair also proved to be a hit, she said.

“On Friday we had Human Foosball, and that was new,” said Nichol. “And I think that went really well. The kids enjoyed it.”

Along with the popular Inflatables, fairgoers also flocked to the Petting Zoo, and to watch the exciting Chuckwagon Races – amongst a long list of other events and activities.

A tent came in handy on one of the fair days, when the weather became too much, she added.

“We moved our stage activities into a tent on Saturday, because of bad weather, and that worked,” said Nichol.

And retiring Killarney Ag Society member Randy Hodge got a bit of a surprise during last weekend’s Fair Days.

“We presented Randy with a Director’s Chair for his lawn,” said Nichol. “And a white, one-gallon bucket. It has green and black lettering on it that says: ‘Randy’s Very Own Rock Bucket,’ because he would spend hours picking up small rocks on the dirt infield of the racetrack, where the chuckwagons turn around.”

A DIRECTOR’S CHAIR – PLUS HIS VERY OWN BUCKET… After 30 years of service with the Killarney Agricultural Society, retired member Randy Hodge (left) was presented by Ag Society member Wally Mitchell with a director’s lawn chair, and his very own Rock Bucket, during last weekend’s Killarney Agricultural Fair Days. In vocal tribute to Hodge, Allan Munroe said no one could pick rocks off the racetrack infield quite like Randy. Congratulations on a job well done.
